The 2004 ClevelandBrowns.Com Message Board Mock

Welcome graphic

chargers.jpg

Robert Gallery, LT, Iowa

Due to the inability to trade down, I went with the guy that the Chargers may ultimately select anyway. There is talk here in San Diego that the Chargers may trade to the #3 and get an Offensive Guard so that Arizona can get Eli Manning. The Chargers are pretty much in the same position as the Browns, where everyone thinks they hate their QB and want to replace him, but the real problem lays with the O-line. The only reason the Chargers wouldn't take Gallery is because #1 might be too high to do it, but I still don't doubt that Gallery is one of their top prospects.

Grade: C-They need a QB or need to trade down. We weren't allowed to trade so it HAD to be Manning here.

Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Pittsburgh

Tim Brown and Jerry Rice are getting old. Eli has fallen, but the Raider's window to win is closing rapidly. They are more than happy to find that they get one of the best pure playmakers in college football. Also, they like his discipline and fiery attitude he got from military school. He fits right in with the Black Hole.

Grade: B - Well, they should have taken Manning, but they can live with Fitzgerald.

Eli Manning, QB, Ole Miss

Dennis Green's bluff has worked. He gets the QB he wants. Manning is the real deal and now that he has some good WRs to work with this team has a shot to be good on offense. Eli may step in and be better than his brother

Grade: A - Get an all pro QB, very lucky here.

Sean Taylor, S, Miami

A great playmaker, and a great ballhawk. A little suprised Big Ben isn't taken here, but still they get what they want.

Grade: B

Kellen Winslor, Jr, Miami, TE

Grade: F I can't believe they take Winslow here, way too early...Hes a tight end who will make some great plays, but with defensive line help there they would be stupid not to grab it

Tommie Harris, DT, Oklahoma
That left the Lions (me) with an interesting pick. The Lions main need was RB, yes. However, can you honestly say that any of these RB's in this draft are worth the #6 overall. The Lions needed help on the defensive line. Personally, again I really like Hill at DE, but obviously not at #6. Udeze would have been a good pick, but I think that fixing the middle of that line could be a bigger priority. Earl Holmes and Wali Rainer (as Browns fans know) can't really control the running game. Harris can keep a running game in check, as well as collapsing the pocket somewhat. He was a little bit of a reach, yes. However, not as much of a reach as taking an RB at that pick would have been. Plus, it makes entirely too much sense for the Lions to wait for the second round and take the Michigan product, Chris Perry, at RB in round two. It is taking another risk, yes, however, Perry would be a great fit with the Michigan faithful. Plus with Garner entering the FA market and a few other options out there (Dillon) making an RB a high pick simply wasn't worth it to me.
Grade: A+   - Frees up their fast linebackers to do their thing. I love this pick, it makes much sense.

Shawn Andrews, OT, Arkansas

Grade- B+ - Not bad, protects Vick's blindside and gets a mauler for Duckett

Big Ben Roethisberger, QB, Miami (OH)

Grade: A+  - Wow this team should be thrilled. They have been intrigued by Big Ben for a while so now that they land him they are more than happy...A good day to be a Cleveland Browns fan.

Roy Williams, WR, Texas

Jags are gonna go for one of three guys (IMO): Roy Williams - WR TX, Kenechi Udeze - DE USC or Reggie Williams - WR Washington. So I picked a nice WR for Leftwich to pass to. If Williams (from TX) had been gone and Udeze had been there he would have been the pick.

Will Smith, DE, THE Ohio State University

The Buffalo organization is verry excited about the addition of Will Smith.
This was the ideal pick at our spot. Sure, last year the offense was horrible and thats why we fired our coach, but seriously. Will Smith is just too good a player to pass up at this postion and he fills a need on D. No WR was worth the pick here so we had to go in another direction. We are going to try and move up in the 2nd to grab Rashaun Woods, who can really play. We werent' sure what to do with Travis Henry and were dangling him for a 1rst round pick, but no one bit. We believe Mcgahee is ready to take over his job. Overall this draft was a great day to be a Bills fan.

Vince Wilfork, DT, Miami

I picked for Da Bears! My man was Vince Wilfork - DT. I feel that Keith Traylor is history (34yrs old/injuries). We Need a Big Tackle (6-2, 350) to get penetration, occupy double-teams to let Urlacher do his thing! JMHO Go Brownies!!!

Kevin Jones, RB, Virgina Tech

I feel we get everything we possibly could have wished for in Kevin Jones. Jones was far and away the best VT player and was a great runner. He has amazing speed and the patience to wait for the hole. He will do great behind Alstott. We signed a couple WR so we aren't to worried about depth there and we are just hoping that we can move MeShawn for a later round pick

Ben Troupe, TE, Florida

I picked Troupe for the Vikings, mainly because I thought they could use another offensive weapon to go along with Moss, and the RB corral. I know they need defense, but if it were a 7 round mock, the rest of my picks probably would have been defense.

Jonathan Vilma, MLB, Miami

I picked Vilma for Seattle - I figured they were probably losing Randall Godfrey and Orlando Huff to FA and there are a lot of good DTs available in rnd 2 and 3.

Will Poole, CB, USC

I picked for the Rams, and selected Poole because one of their needs was at CB..and he's considered a shut-down athletic CB..it was hard..I also wanted Marquise Hill DE..LSU..6' 7 295....
